Upon selecting a laboratory file the sample information is presented to the user for review.  The user typically needs to complete two main tasks.  If using LSpecs and PLog Environmental this is all completed automatically for the user.

Specification of Locations/Depths

Often samples are submitted with a Field ID consisting of a combination of Location, Depth, Well and Date separated by a delimiter ("_" or "/" are supported).  The individual components are not specifically given, but it is usually desirable to extract them.  

If using PLog Environmental in conjunction with LSpecs for field data then clicking the LSpecs Icon will do this automatically for you, based on the field data for each Field ID.

Otherwise, the Split Field ID button is able to do this automatically for common Field_ID formats.  Examples of common supported formats include:

Location & Depth

Locations can be included with depths, either as a single value or a range.  Valid formats are:

BH12_1.1-1.3

BH12/1.1-1.3

BH12/1.1            

Location, Sample Increment & Depth

A variation on above, but including an incrementing sample number with depth.  Valid formats are:

BH12/1_1.1-1.3

Location, Depth & Date

Dates can be included, but is also provided specifically on most COC forms.  The date within the Field ID will be identified but ignored.  Valid formats are:

BH12/120208/1.1-1.3      

BH12/1.1-1.3/12 Feb 08

BH12_12/2/08_1.1        

Location, Well & Date

Locations can have the WellCode (A,B,C,D,E) on the end, and it will be identified. Non A,B etc codes need to be separated by a delimiter; ie

Specification of Field QA

Field QA, such as Field Duplicates, Blanks, Spikes, Composites need to be specified as the laboratory is not normally aware of such information.  A list of valid values can be selected from the Sample_Type column on the Sample Sheet.

When specifying Field Duplicates you will be prompted for the parent sample.  The SampleCode of the Parent Sample will be copied into the "Parent Sample" column.  For Interlab Duplicates you need to obtain the SampleCode of the Parent Sample from the data from the Primary Lab.    

Errors during import

Errors while importing the sample information are very rare, and if not intuitive to fix should be forwarded to EarthScience Information Systems for comment.
