ESdat offers the ability to use passwords to restrict access to databases.

New Databases

An option to require a password for access to the database is given in the New Database Dialogue.  If this option is selected the user will be prompted for a password during the setup of the new database.

Every time someone attempts to access this database through ESdat, Access, or to import they will be prompted for the password.

Existing Databases

When linking to existing databases that have passwords you are given two options:

1.to be prompted for the password whenever opening the database, or

2.to store the password in ESdat so that you are not prompted for it every time the database is opened through ESdat (you are required to enter the correct password prior to it being stored).

The first option means that every time someone attempts to access this database through ESdat, Access, or to import from the ESdat Import functionality through Excel they will be prompted for the password.

The second option may be applicable if you have a secure internal system.  You will need to specify the database password when setting up the database in ESdat, and whenever opening it in Access.
