HiVol Data

ESdat is able to import HiVol gas sampling data.  HiVol sampling normally refers to the process whereby gas emmissions are passed through a filter.  The Start and End Date/Time are recorded, and the Start and End Flow rates are recorded.

The filter is then sent to the lab and the results are returned in units of mg/sample or ug/sample or similar.  These results need to be processed against the volume of air that passed through the filter to get results in mg/m3, ug/m3 or similar.

The HiVol measurements (Start & End Date/Time, Flow) need to be imported into the HiVol_Samples table.    This table supplements the "Chemistry_Samples" table, providing information specific to HiVol Sampling.  The import template is generated as shown below.

Laboratory data is imported in the normal manner, and the Field ID values will be matched automatically.

Samples are compared to returned laboratory data on the basis of the "Field_ID" of each sample.  The Field_ID is used rather than the SampleCode as the HiVol data should be entered prior to receiving the results from the laboratory, and the SampleCode that the lab uses to identify the Sample is not available at that point.  It is therefore important that unique Field_ID's be used for each HiVol sample submitted to the laboratory, and the HiVol_Samples table enforces this.

HiVol data is output under the "Gas Chemistry" datatype button.  This is irrespective of the "Matrix_State" specified for the Matrix.  For example users may decide that HiVol data should get a Matrix_Type of "Dust", and specify the "Matrix_State" as "Solid".  However, HiVol data is insensitive to the Matrix_State and outputs all data under the "Gas" outputs (as results are actually given per m3 of air/gas that passes through the filter).
