Hi, I am having a problem when exporting to Surfer, when i run the tool to contour in surfer i recieve an error that i am unable to open (access denied) the temporary grd file used in creating the contours. Is it possible to change the location of this temp file, currently in the root 'documents and settings' folder, to write to 'documents and settings\my profile' where write access will be granted. jonathan.fletcher attached the following image(s): esdat error.JPG (29kb) downloaded 10 time(s).You cannot view/download attachments. Hello Jonathan, Thankyou for attaching the screen-grab, it is always helpful in confirming the content of the message and the error. Firstly, in the immediate term you can change the export option from "Temporary File" to "Permanent File" and then you can specify any location. You can then complete your immediate tasks. As for outputting the folder to the requested, the temp folder used is the specified "Temp" folder on the PC, which is usually 'documents and settings\my profile\local settings\temp'. You should have read-write access to that folder, although as the screen-grab indicates, you clearly don't. You may need to get your IT to check for any issues related to that folder or the setup on your PC.

Thanks for the reply. I have been able to use the permenant file method, however only if i specify a folder not related to the 'documents and settings' folder, if i try to specify the permenant file in the 'documents and settings\my profile\....' folder i still recieve the same error even though i have full access in this location. It looks like the problem is with the creation of the grid file which seems to want to be created in the documents and setting root folder regardless of where the temp file is 'documents and settings\my profile\local settings\temp' I am happy anyway to use the permanant file option and save to another location, so problem solved. thanks
