structuring sites and locations

Hi I am new to ESdat and want to begin importing our data. We have approx. 2000 sites. These are mostly creeks/ rivers waterbodies etc spread around Victoria. The way our research/sampling has been conducted is that each site is also a discrete sampling location with its own lat longs. ie our sites and locations are exactly the same thing. And we dont have monitoring zones. What is the best way to structure data like this? - Would it be best to add all the sites individually then also add the same site codes and lat/long for the single location at each site? and proceed this way? This might be a bit of work as there doesn’t appear to be a bulk site import option.
- Or should I consider making one or two overarching sites (ie Victoria as site) then adding all the locations to this site? I assume this might create issues when linking to projects etc? not sure if this even makes sense
I would really appreciate getting this sorted out before beginning any data imports. I have only just begin using software and am still getting my head around processes etc Regards Daniel Edited by moderator Friday, November 6, 2020 12:16:12 PM(UTC)

Hi Daniel,
Thanks for your post. It's definitely worth planning the best way to set up your Projects, Sites and Locations before diving in too deep.
Based on the number of sampling locations you have (~2000), I would recommend setting up a single Site for Victoria (option 2), and then create all of your Locations within that Site. This will be the most efficient way to do this, and the simplest option to keep on top of.
If you did want to break this up further (for filtering purposes) you could setup some Monitoring Zones within this Site (such as LGAs or something similar), but this isn't required. You can also come back and add Monitoring Zones later if you like.
With regards to Projects, there is no limit to the number of Projects you can link with a Site, so you don't have to worry about this.
I hope this helps you in deciding on the best way to get things rolling in ESdat.
Cheers,
Nick
