Hi,

I wanted to assign the permission of multiple projects to multiple users, and I needed to go through every user and tick the project permissions.  I was wondering if there is any potential to do the 'global' permission update for multiple users on multiple projects?  For example, I had 5 project permissions to give to 5 users.  I found I can tick the headers of the permission table to give a user the permission of all 5 projects, but I still needed to repeat the process for all 5 users.  Is there any more efficent means?

Regards,

Jerry

Hi Jerry,

You can assign permissions by user: https://ESdat.net/ESdat_...sers_projects_server.htm

or by Project: https://ESdat.net/ESdat_...x.html?project_users.htm

Unfortunately there is no way to combine these two processes into a single form, so you will need to continue updating the user permissions either one user or one Project at a time.

Thanks,

Nick

Hello Nick,

Thanks for the reply on this one and I just got back to this with another question.  Is there a way to turn on all permissions as default?  i.e. when a project is created, all or some users can have all permissions by default, instead of only the user who created the project/ site having all permissions?

Thanks,

Jerry

Hi Jerry,

Permissions need to be set explicitly, they can't be automated (that would kind of defeat the purpose).

Are you able to describe your workflow that makes you want to have this functionality?

Is it so that Admin users don't need to assign all the permissions via the Server Web Interface?

Thanks,

Nick

Hi Nick, Yes, it is right. We have multiple users working on a database at different stages. Users who didn't create the database require permissions update every time as they can't edit or delete the data. Given the amount of users and projects, it is pretty hard to manually keep all permissions up to date for all users via the Server Web Interface. We frequently get enquires about permissions from our users, so I was wondering if the default settings can be more flexible. Thanks, Jerry

Hi Jerry,

I suspect that most of your users that need to have permissions set for them are "Standard" users.

ESdat also has the option of "Scheduler" users, which allows the user to manage their own Project permissions.  Any Scheduler user can access the "My Projects and Sites" menu in the Web Interface and select different Projects to work on (assuming the Project is not set as restricted).

It may be that using the "Scheduler" user role instead of the "Standard" user role will solve your problem.  These changes would need to be made by your IT department who manage the ESdat logins (and they may need to refer back to the installation documentation),

Thanks,

Nick
