Hi guys,

Have just installed the new ESdat program. Can you please explain what has happened with the sample labelling, with regard to automatically splitting up location codes and sample to/from depths? Having just gone through the hassle of changing my company's labelling conventions (including updating our SOPs) to use this rather handy feature, I find I the labelling system has been changed in ESdat (ie. BH01/0.0_0.1 will not split correctly).

This is somewhat of a major inconvenience as I have just completed 20 boreholes with at least 5 samples each meaning I am going to have to manually enter 200 to/from depths...

Have labs been notified that sample depths are no longer seperated by an underscore and instead by a dash? I imagine I may continue to receive samples with depths seperated by an underscore, rendering the Split Loc/Depth function useless.

Hello,

There has been no change in the way the automatic Field ID splitter works since version 3.

The example you give BH01/0.0_0.1 has never been supported in the Field ID splitter.  However BH01/0.0-0.1 is supported (ie a dash between the depths rather than an underscore).

This is nothing related to the labs, the labs will/should be returning your Field ID exactly as you give it to them.  However, there may be some ambiguity as to what is an underscore and what is a dash, so the field submission would need to make sure it's not ambiguous.

You can, for your current data, just do a find and replace on "_"to "-" and then use the Field Splitter.

If you want to be the most efficient you may consider collecting all your COC (and Borehole Log) data electronically using PLog, then when you submit your electronic COC and get the data back all those sample details including their QA status will already be assigned for you and you don't need to do anything.
