Hello,I'm trying to import laboratory data. 6 of the samples will import, and the rest seem to import; they turn green. But I cannot find them in ESdat, and when I try and import the chemistry data I get the "parent record missing error". The chem codes are exact. I am certain of this. Any suggestions on how I could fix this? Thanks, Sarah

Hello Sarah, That error in the Chemistry Results data normally suggests that there is no Sample that has the equivalent SampleCode, the error comment normally at the start of the row will confirm the details. You should confirm that the SampleCode is in the Sample sheet. If not then it should be so the issue needs to be referred to the laboratory. Samples that are imported can be found in ESdat under the "Chemistry Samples" data table, or under "Chem Tracking". Samples that don't have results won't be listed under "Water Chemistry" or "Soil Chemistry" etc.. as only those with valid results get listed there. It's difficult to diagnose further without seeing the laboratory files, can you send them through, or directly to support?, you should get a prompt after the lab import errors. However it sounds like some inconsistency in the SampleCode values between the Sample and Chemistry files from the lab, which would explain samples without results, and results without a matching sample. I understand that the typical issue with this error is with the sample code. I've checked it multiple times, and they both match.

Hello Sarah, That data looks to import fine. It is sure to be something we can resolve easily, can you send a copy of the import template that has the errors you are seeing as well as any screen shots that may elaborate what you have mentioned, such as the Samples not appearing in ESdat? I have all 65 appearing in the Samples data. Alex

Never mind, I figured it our myself. There is a problem with the date formate, and I wasn't switching it to the correct formate. I dont think this has anything to do with the lab. It has something to do with ESdat

Hello Sarah, That must be why we had trouble. If you open the lab files in a text editor, like notepad, are the dates in the proper format (dd-mmm-yyyy, or 24 Aug 2011). If the dates are provided as dd/mm/yyyy (or 24/9/2010) then there is potential for issues related to the regional settings on your systems. Sincerely, Alex
