Hi all,

Still a newbie so be gentle.

Ive just recently re-ordered and relocated analytes into more appropriate chem groups (from an earlier post). Now i want to export the Chemistry_Lookup and Chemistry_Lookup_ChemGroup tables and import them into the EScIS_Hydrogeology_and_Environmental database so all new projects refence the updated tables.

Ive successfully exported both tables, however, when trying to import them i only have success with the Chemistry_Lookup_ChemGroup table. Importing the Chemistry_Lookup table creates an error with the "Validate_OriginalChemNames" column which says "incorrect data type or text too long". The contents of this column are either FALSE or TRUE which is exactly the same (length, they are all in upper case in the tablei am trying to import, they are all in lower case in the original table im trying to update) as the original Chemistry_Lookup table.

Any ideas on how to import this table and save me pulling my hair out!

Hello,

I'm not sure why True or False would be giving an issue, as they should import fine, and I can't replicate a problem.

However, you can either try deleting the values in that column as they are probably not relevant for what you are trying to do.  You could also try replacing True with 1 and False with 0, which should also work.

Hi Alex, I have a new problem now. Since i rebooted the machine, things have changed slightly. I have always been able to export the Chemistry_Lookup table and be able to import it successfully into another project (except the EScIS_Hydrogeology_and_Environmental database). But now im getting a new set of errors. When i overwrite existing records OR update existing records with require parent records selected i get the following error messages: first row under column headings "Can't update, Record doesnt already exist" second row under column headings "Operation must use an updateable query" When i add new records with require parent records selected i get the following error messages: first row under column headings "Current Record does not support updating. This may be a limitation of the provider, or of the selected locktype." When i add new records with create missing parent records selected i get the following error messages: first row under column headings "Current Record does not support updating. This may be a limitation of the provider, or of the selected locktype." Please note that these are completely different error messages compared to what i first received when starting this post. Also please note that i have absolutely no problems at all importing the same file into a any other project Cheers Brad

Hello Brad,

It looks like the key error messages are:

"Current Record does not support updating....."
 and
"Operation must use an updateable query"

It is likely that you only have read-only permissions to the folder the database is in.  If it is in the ESdat installation directory then you should never change files there.  Refer to the help files on Templates.  If it is elsewhere try checking your folder permissions, or moving the database to a folder without that issue.

Can you include future changes of topic as a new forum topic? It will help other people find issues if they have the same one. - thanks.

Alex

I am having a similar problem

I am trying to create a project template that will work with all future new projects. I copied the default template into a folder where I have write permissions.

When I try to upload the chemistry data, it works fine for almost all the records, but with about 50 of the records, if I try 'Add New' it gives me the error 'record already exists' and if I try 'update record' I get the error message 'can't update, record already exists'.

All of these chemicals are in the chem group TPH. At first I thought the problem was the fact that in my table, the chem codes for these compounds all had TPH in front of them and they didn't in the default lookup table. However, when I manually deleted that, it only helped for 5 of the records. The chem codes in the table now match the ones in the chart but I still can't get it to update.

I can just fix it manually but I don't want to run into this error again.

 ... more questions forthcoming.

I meant 'can't update, record doesn't already exist'

Hello Theresa,

Can you clarify if you are trying to update records in the zRef_Chemistry_Lookup table?  Or is it in Chemistry_Results?

If the former, then one possible explanation for that behaviour is that the ChemName being used is already in the table, but with a different ChemCode. I can't explain how that could have happened though, although am happy to take a look at the new project template and the data you are trying to upload if you want to send it through to support.

Alex.

Yes, it's the chem lookup table that I'm trying to import. I made a bunch of changes to it and then exported it. Then I made a copy of your project template with the intent of making my own and I'm getting this error when I go back into the exported edif file to try and update the chem lookup table.

I'll send along an excel save of the edif file along with the environmental standard I'm using and hopefully you can tell me what I've done wrong.

File Attachment(s):
Alberta Teir 1 Soil and Subsoil (Fine Soil).xls (169kb) downloaded 0 time(s).
excel version of edif chem changes for project template.xls (481kb) downloaded 1 time(s).

Hello Theresa,

The compound names are already in the database, but are listed with the new (4.3) version of the TPH codes.  You must be importing into 4.3, but those codes are in the format of an earlier version.

Version 4.3 had to rename the TPH Codes from (for example) TPHC6_C10 to C6-C10 as the term TPH is tending to be dropped in lots of standards.

Try renaming the codes (drop the TPH on the front and change the underscore(_) to a dash(-).

That should fix it.

A minor update (4.3.11) adds some extra checks for some issues around the TPH code renaming, so possibly also try updating to that (downloads page of the website) if you have a lower version.
