We are trying to edit some water chemistry data spanning multiple years, and have been receiving the following errors when attempting to edit "F" to "T" in Total/Filtered Column:

"The data cannot be edited.  Please have an admin user check your Project permissions in the ESdat Web interface"..."Violation of PRIMARY KEY contraint 'PK_Chemistry_Results'.  Cannot insert duplicate key in objetc 'dbo.Chemistry_Results'.  The duplicate key value is _____"

I am an admin, and checked that I have permission to edit in this project.  So it seems like the latter message is the issue (duplicate primary key in Chemistry Results).  However when i try to make the edit in the Chemistry Results data table, it gives the same error.

I can send screenshots to the support email if its helpful.

Hi Paige,

The Total or Filtered flag in the results makes up part of the unique identifier for a result (the Primary Key).

If you're getting this error, then it means that you already have a result for that sample and analyte with the total/filtered column set to 'T'.

A simple way to check this will be to filter for the sample (samplecode) and analyte (chemcode) and see if there are two records, one for 'F' and one for 'T'.

It's pretty common to get both in a set of results if you've requested both total and dissolved analysis.

Thanks,

Nick

Thank you for the help!  It looks like there were two results (T and F)... with the same values.  So i would delete the one thats preventing us from making the change?

Hi Paige,

My recommendation would just be to filter out the data you don't want to use when generating you reports.  Particularly if it was provided by the lab in a Lab Report.

However, if the data is incorrect (or been imported via a historical import) there is nothing stopping you from deleting it if you choose.

Thanks,

Nick
