ESdat can do magical things, bu the environmental standards are a core feature of ESdat, typically the source of truth for most projects and used by most users on a daily basis. It would be great to see some more effort put into the environmental standard reference system.

  • No ACT EPA standards.
  • A fair bunch of the standards don't have publisher or the date published. E.g. I am assuming the SA waste standards are from 2010 as there is no dates anywhere in the reference system.
  • I have had requests from Safe Work Australia standards for occupational hygiene assessments to be added to ESdat.

I know historically if there is enough interest ESciS will look into adding a specific standard. I can assure you there are more than enough interested parties within my workplace alone. Also regulators like the ACT EPA have been providing standards for decades, still nothing in the reference system.

No doubts that the improvements that have happened and currently are being developed for ESdat have been step foward. However, it would be great to see some time allocated to having an up to date environmental standard reference system which encorporates all jurisdictions in Australia and continues to develop like the rest of the platform.

Hi Matt,

Thank you for bringing to our attention your displeasure at the availability of your Environmental Standards in ESdat.

Inclusion of Environmental Standards into ESdat is prioritised on a user needs basis.

If you would like to request a specific standard - or set of standards for inclusion you can do so by posting here in the forum as you have done or in the ESdat LinkedIn Group https://www.linkedin.com/groups/4122096/

Let us know which standard you want included and provide a reference,  a link and the specific page/table numbers so that we can take a look.

For the Standard to be added to the global reference library it will need to have broader support - so for other users - if you would like to see any of Matt's suggestions be included - please post your support below.

To add to this topic, I was working on a client ESdat database and identified that the PFAS landfill criteria from the reference system does not match Table 7 of the PFAS National Environmental Management Plan Version 2.0 (dcceew.gov.au).

  • No PFOA criteria
  • Sum of PFOS/PFHxS being reported as PFOS only

This is very important as it is assumed by some that the reference system has the most up to date and correct information.
