Changing Location Codes

A while back we created a whole series of Location_Codes (with coordinates) that were subsequently utilised by a set of SampleCodes. These Location Codes are now redundant and I want to clean up our location data. I've created a single generic Location_Code (no coordinates). I'd like to assign this new generic Location_Code to the whole set of applicable SampleCodes, then delete the previous series of now redundant Location_Codes. When I try to reallocate the new Location_Code via direct edit of the Chemistry_Samples table in Desktop or via the Location Reject function in Server I get an error. In Desktop, this error is: '28180 The UPDATE statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY constraint "FK_Chemistry_Samples_Wells". The conflict occurred in the database "ESdat, table "dbo.Wells".' Any ideas on how I can change the Location_Codes allocated to our samples would be appreciated. Regards, Jeremy

Hi Jeremy, You'll need to check if your samples have also been allocated to a well in addition to the location. Before switching over the location for the sample you will need to remove the well association, then the location change will be able to be applied. Regards Kimberley
