Hi, I'm encountering an issue when attempting to import historical samples/chemistry across multiple years using an import template. If I have the same well with data from two different sampling events (eg. 2016 and 2021), ESdat will force me to overwrite the sample data from whichever was imported first. I think this is because the sample code is the same for both samples, despite the different sampling date. Previously, the import template generated from desktop would create a unique sample code ID based on field ID, location, date sampled, matrix, etc. The new import template does not seem to have this function. Can anyone comment on this?

Thanks

Hello Richard,

The issue will be, as you have identified, that the SampleCode for each Sample needs to be unique.

If you are re-using the same SampleCode that will indicate it is the same sample,  so you should ensure the SampleCode is unique for each Sample.

There was an Excel formulae in the Import Templates in ESdat Desktop that users could use as you describe, however that hasn't made it to the web version so you should ensure the SampleCode is unique in Excel before uploading the file to attempt to import. I can add it to the feature requests if you like.

Alex

Thanks for confirming Alex. Yes it would be good if that feature could be added as we tend to deal with a lot of historical data. Cheers
