Daft newbie question - formatting output tables in Excel

Ok, so I have the Chemistry table output and there are typically 4-6 decimal places on each of the results and that is way to much. But the output cells are either 1. not classed as numbers so they can't be formatted in the normal way and even when changing the format to a number the tools still don't work; or 2. have text characters in the cell (such as < and >). I just want to reduce the number of decimal places but the normal tools in Excel make no difference. I really don't want to have to re-type each cell manually so some guidance would be appreciated. Hello, If you have version 4.2 or higher you can change the number of significant figures to be output through the Setup - Chemistry - Significant Figures menu. Earlier versions you can do this by modifying the query in Access or SQL Server. If the issue is that different units would be appropiate you can modify that in the zRef_Chemistry_Lookup table. Alex. Hi Alex, I am having a similar problem. For some OCP we are having reported values of 0.10 mg/kg exported by ESdat as 0.1 mg.kg. Would changing the Significant Figures menu to 0.00 (or equvalent) also change other analytes that already export properly (ie. heavy metals = 0 mg/kg, BaP = 0.0 mg/kg) Cheers Brad

Hello Brad, Trailing zeros are not reported, irrespective of the significant figures reporting. This is because trailing zeros dont get stored in numeric fields in databases and ESdat stores the results as numeric. Alex

Hi We're using version 4.4.14 and are having similar problems with significant figures. However, there's no Setup - Chemistry - Significant Figures menu!! Has this been moved or is there another way of reducing the number of significnat figures? (don't really want to go to ug/kg)

Hi Anthony, ESdat should be outputting the same number of significant figures that the data is input in? There is no way to override that, in the SQL Server version at least (which is what URS are using). Warwick
