Hi guys,

We've recently installed ESdat on a few of our computers using a network licence. The following pop-up error message came up when attempting to open a Chem Table for the first time:

The template used for this table is out of date or has been altered in an unsupported manner.

You should create a new template from the file Chemistry_Output_Table_Template.xls in the Templates subdirectory of the installation directory.

We have only had this issue on 1 out of 3 computers we've installed the software - all running the same versions of Windows and Excel. We tried uninstalling ESdat (checking that all traces had been removed from the installation directory on C: drive) and reinstalling but it hasn't helped.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Renae

Hello,

It is likely that the different PC's are accessing a different template directory.  To see which template is being used for the Chemistry Tables click the "?" button next to the Finish button prior to generating the table.

The file that is referenced should be replaced with one that works.

This check is carried out as the Template needs to contain the exceedance formatting buttons and other functionality that could otherwise be removed by users when modifying the template in Excel.

Sincerely,

Alex

Hi Alex,

We tried copying a 'valid' template over the top of the corrupted file as well as deleting the corrupted file and copying the valid version in. Neither made any difference.

It's worth noting that we can open the 'valid' template by itself on the problem computer and it looks ok (ie. the formatting buttons appear in the top left corner).

I also completely deleted the template file and tried starting ESdat - it did an automatic repair and created a new version of the template which also didn't work.

 Any other ideas?

Hello Renae,

Make a note of your Network Path (File - Network Information) and your Template Path (File - Template Path).

Search for any occurances of  Chemistry_Output_Table_Template.xls or Chemistry_Output_Table_Template.xlsm in those directories or subdirectories thereof and move them elsewhere.  See if that fixes it.

If not, also try moving the same file out from under the installation direcotory and confirm that ESdat then gives a different message "Cannot find" or something to that extent.

If it does resove it try putting the files back one by one to identify where the issue is.

The file isn't corrupted as such, it's just been modified in Excel in some way that ESdat doesn't like, most probably some alteration to the exceedance formatting buttons, but not necessarily.

Alex.

Hi Alex,

I did a search and did not find any occurances in the network directory and only one occurance in the template path (C:\Program Files\ESdat\Templates). I cut the template file out of this directory onto the desktop. When I opened ESdat it did an automatic repair (see attached screen dump) and created a new template file - no message "Cannot find". Same error with the "new" template file.

 Cheers

Renae

Hello Renae,

Are you able to send me a copy of the template file, and also a copy of the chemistry table produced that gives that error? support@ESdat.com.au

You should be able to use ESdat normally, except for the irritation in having that messagebox pop up.

Alex
