Trying to upload chem data for new fractions TRHC10-C12 etc.. and receive an error "Invalid Chem Code"

I went through the process of adding the Chem Codes to the look up table, checked they were in the zChemlookup file (and they were), assigned the appropriate codes, update and upload. The invalid Chem Code persists even though the exact code is available in the look up table.

An example of the chem code and chem names is:

Chem Name: TRH >C10-C12 Aliphatic     Chem Code: TPHC10_C12_Aliph

Any thoughts on resolving the issue would be appreciated.

Hello,

It is most likely caused by the change of ChemCode nomenclature for the TPH compounds in ESdat 4.3.

Various jurisdictions are doing away with the TPH terminology, and so the ESdat chemcodes were migrated to a different nomenclature.  ie instead of TPHC10_C12_Aliph the new terminology is C10-C12_Aliph.  All existing codes in the database should have been updated with the update, but it is possible that this code got back in by other means.  If you change the code in the zRef_ChemLookup to the new terminology you should be able to import to it.

Further on this topic.

While cleaning up any codes that has crept in is easy in the Access version, in the SQL Server version this can be harder due to multiple sites / projects already referencing these codes and being "Finalised".

If you are using the SQL Server version we have developed a SQL Server proceedure for cleaning up these codes.  Contact support if you have this issue and are interested.

The changing of the TPH codes has evidently led to some inconsistencies in the way labs are reporting them which has caused some problems for quite a few users in cleaning them up once they are imported into the software.

To help with this we've now added a menu item to ESdat 4.4 which will automatically clean up the codes to the standard that should be used in ESdat in your project for you.  For Example C6-C10 has variously been reported as:

C6_C10
TPHC6_C10
TRHC6-C10
C6-C10

They will all be standardised to the current ESdat standard  C6-C10.

The menu item is under Setup - Chemistry - Fix TPH Codes and is available for Access and SQL Server versions.

In some instances it won't be able to clean some codes.  For example if you have a code for C6_C10 and C6-C10 for the same sample (and same lab method) then only one can be assigned the correct code as two instances of the same result are not allowed to occur.  In this case a decision will need to be made by the user as to which result should be used, and the other deleted - or the varying naming retained for that result.
