Historical Soils data upload with Chem Column Format

We were attempting to use the Chem Column Format sheet to upload historical soil chemistry data. The issue that we came across was with the SampleCode. The pre-generated code only has the Location Code and the Sample Date and Time. The issue would arises if you have the same analyte for two or more different depths. The new tab (Chemistry_Samples) only recognizes the one distinct sample code (Location + Date). So on import, it will recognize the first set of distinct analytes but won't recognize the second set with the different depths (See Historical Soil Upload Example) We know that in the lab import, that the SampleCode is a unique laboratory generated code but this does not often exist with historical soils data especially from third party consultants reports. To get around this, we have manually added a Sample Depth From and To column the the Chem Column Format and changed the Sample Code format to suit (see Proposed Chem Import). This allows each sample code to become unique. The question is, are we missing the complete obvious (I hope not as a couple of us have spent a few hours making sure) and secondly, is this something you would consider as an enhancement in the next version (if given we have actually identified a real issue). Thanks in advance. File Attachment(s): Historical Soil Upload Example.xls (37kb) downloaded 1 time(s). Proposed Chem Import.xls (37kb) downloaded 0 time(s).You cannot view/download attachments. Hello Eric, It does look to be an issue with the Chem Column Format Historical Chemistry Import Template, in that the Sample_Depth_From and Sample_Depth_To columns are not being produced by default when the "Column" Import Template is generated. They should be getting produced in the same way that is happening for the "CrossTab" Historical Chemistry Import Template (ie if specified for inclusion under Setup - Chemistry - Sample Fields Shown). The SampleCode formulae is generated from the Columns that are output by default, and your resolution is correct, it can be overwritten by any unique SampleCode, as you have done. We will fix this in the next release. Alex
