Hi Alex

I have entered water levels using the measured depth from a reference (in this case TOC) elevation using the GW import template. The water depth bgl does not automatically calculate on the GW2 table although the water depth bTOC is there. I did import the wells using the import template and had ground elevation (from the location import table) and stickup but did not specifically input the TOC.  ESdat correctly added the elevation and stickup to get the reference elevation but did not fill in the TOC column in BH2_Wells.

Once I added in the TOC in BH_2, the depths bgl in GW2 appeared.  Is ESdat specifically programmed not to automatically calculate the ground elevation and stickup to get the TOC or is this an oversight?

 Thanks in advance.

Hello Eric,

Evidently the depth to elevation conversions using the TOC need the TOC to be entered explicitely, rather than relying on it being derived from the surface elevation and the stickup.  The reason being that typically the accuracy of a TOC measurement is higher than that used for stickup.  However, we will revisit this reasoning in coming versions.

Hi Alex

Thanks for the reply. While I agree that generally the TOC is more accurate measure (and preferred), the issue is the depth bgl chart doesn't work unless one manually enters the TOC (if all you have is grd elev and stick up). Certainly, later versions should calculate stickup if grd and TOC elevations are entered or vice versa - TOC is calculated if grd elevation and stickup are known.  I think as long the user could overwrite the reference elevation column, all would be fine.

Regards.

Eric
