For samples where the lab reports a single depth, that single depth is in the "range" field; where the lab reports a starting and ending depth, that is displayed in the range field as "4-4.5," for example.

How can I get ESdat to separate that field, I have thousands of historical entries to go through...

Thanks!

Hello,

Some Chemistry Outputs (such as the chem tables) only output the sample depth as either a depth range, or an average, rather than both individual "From" and  "To" values - which is more designed for reporting.

To split a range into a from and to, using a hyphen as a delimiter you can use the standard "text to columns" tool in Excel, typically found in the "Data" tab.

If this is an intermdiary step for further analysis (it sounds like it might be) then it is possible that we could recommend a more efficient approach to getting the data how you want, but we would need specifics.
