Chem_Group for Single Analyte using Different Methods

Hi there, I've come across this a few times now and it's rather frustrating as it results in a range of values in my chem tables. Some metals are analyzed as both routine parameters and as metals, which can lead to two different results. The Method_Type is recorded correctly, but everything gets assigned to the Routine Parameters Chem_Group. I would like the results from the Inorganic method to be Routine Parameters, and those from the Metals method to be in the Metals Chem_Group. However, when I try to change the Chem_Group, I am able to do only one of them and then it tells me I cannot change any more. A refresh of the data view reveals that ALL results visible for the current filter have been changed. This is rather frustrating. Any thoughts?

Hi Thanks for your post. The Chem Group option allows grouping on the basis of the compound only (ie not a combination of Compound and Method Type or Name). For example, Iron can belong to only one ChemGroup, irrespective of Method. It sounds like you have some of the Metals in a Chem Group called “Routine Parameters”. Outputting your results by Method Type or Method Name (rather than Chem Group) would be one way of keeping the results from each Method separated. (See the options when creating a Chemistry Output Table). However, as a result the Method assigned by the lab will govern the grouping, which may not suit you (and may vary between labs). It is possible to edit the Method_Type values in ESdat if this is the approach you need to take, and if they broadly match what you need (but wouldn’t recommend doing this with the Method Name). OK, thanks Tom. I'll have to take a look at how we group our output tables and move on from there.
