Does anyone know what causes this error message ? The full error is :- 24670 Current Recordset does not support updating. This may be a limitation of the provider, or of the selected locktype. Thankyou, Brian Tarrant Port of Melbourne Corporation

It is likely to be something to do with your Windows user profile or permissions. Can we get the following?

Did it just start happening?

Did anything change on your PC that you are aware of between when it wasn't happening, and when it started happening?

Does it happen on another users PC with their Login?

Does it happen on another users PC with your login?

Does it happen on your PC if another user logs in?

Regards,

Warwick

Warwick, thanks for the response. I suspect it is a server permissions issue.

The PC we are using is a virtual PC we use to test the latest Microsoft patches before deploying to the rest of the business. We have tried a few different logins, some receive this error, some do not, but all are in the same security groups, which makes me think there is an additional level of access granted on the server itself.

Deleting and creating a clean profile does not help those who are getting the error.

The issue is most likely that the user needs write permissions to this folder:

“C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Roaming\ESdat5\”

Thanks Warwick, we have reverted our virtual PC snapshot and tried again (without the latest Microsoft security patches) and the problem has gone away.  I do believe Microsoft has withdrawn one of the updates. We found that our "My Documents" redirection was not working as expected.  We'll see what happens when we deploy the updated patches.
