Since December, my laboratory has been issuing the ESdat CSV data files with garbled data for some of the symbols (e.g. the 'micro' symbol). See the attached screenshot which shows a CSV file from November on the left and December on the right, opened in both Excel and Notepad.

Lab tells me nothing is amiss from their end, so not sure what's being missed here.

ESDAT data error.jpg (1,160kb) downloaded 8 time(s).

Hi,

Is the lab also able to see the issue if they also open the files in Notepad?

That's what I'm trying to get them to check. Their response so far is "the output workorder file doesn't have the error", but I don't know what viewer they're using to confirm that.

Hi,

If they don't have the error at the labs end maybe your work email system is introducing something in the virus scan etc...  To check that you could get them to send the report to a personal account of yours, if possible, or open a gmail account to test that.   Failing that if you / they are OK to send it from the lab directly to us we can take a look.

Definitely something going on between the email servers - It's in the hands of IT now. Between the Lab and my work email the CSV gets corrupted. If the Lab sends to my Gmail, it doesn't get corrupted. If I forward from my Gmail to my work email it gets corrupted, BUT If I create a new message in my Gmail and attach the CSV then send to my work email, it doesn't get corrupted. This is beyond my expertise as a scientist and occasional IT tinkerer. This is moving into sorcery.

Hi,

An alternative to getting the lab to send it to you via email is to have them send it directly into ESdat Server, bypassing your email and any internal IT problems.

See http://www.ESdat.net/ESdatLabSync.aspx
