Thanks: 2 times

If I enter UTM coordinates should ESdat auto generate lat/long? I have a project for which this is not occuring. Is there a way to force this?

Hi Nick,

Yes, ESdat will calculate the lat/long based on the coordinate system set for the Site.

This happens as part of the nightly services for new records.

You can also force this action in ESdat Desktop with the "Setup - Update Lat/Long" menu option.

Thanks,

NT

Hi Nick,

I am newbie for ESdat and got the same case. When I click the "Setup - Update Lat/Long" it launched the web page said "The following Sites do not have Coordinate Systems and could therefore not be processed:".

Is this web page is launched from ESdat Server? I am using ESdat Desktop pointing to our sandbox sql server database but when the web page popup I am not sure it is pointing to sandbox or production databased. Another question if we only have ESdat Desktop (no ESdat Server), will this function still work?

Thanks,

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

I think the reason is in the error message 'The following Sites do not have Coordinate Systems...'

In ESdat Desktop you can check this in the "Site / HGSite2_Site_Details" view.  The coordinate system needs to be set for the conversion to work.

The popup is just a notification and will be generated from whichever database you are using.

Thanks,

Nick

Thanks Nick. As today I continue digging to the ESdat Server to look for where is the database is actually pointing to. I found there is a place at C:\Program Files (x86)\EScIS\MapServer\apps\wfs_ESdat_locations.map. I found it points to production database. That might explain why I created new project in sandbox database from ESdat Desktop. The lot/long are not updated. Is this make sense to you? - Also is there any other place for database connection string in ESdat server or above is the only location? - When I click "update lat/long", I got below error message. Will that be the problem? "Automation error The object invoked has disconnected for its clients." Thank, Daniel

Hi Daniel,

The error suggests you don't have a coordinate system selected. Can you confirm that you have a coordinate system set for your Site?  This is required to convert between UTM and lat/long:

CoordSys.JPG (95kb) downloaded 0 time(s).

Without this set you will get an error.

Thanks,

Nick

Hi Nick, There are some sites have this coordinate system setting but some don't. That's why it listed the sites without this information in the web page which is good. You mean this automation error is because some of sites have no this information? So I may just ignore it? We did not enter this coordinate system info for site is last few years. My job is looking into existing ESdat information to identify what site without this info then I need to set up the process to populate it. So we can see this location in ArcGIS.. Thanks, Daniel
