Hi Warwick

Our business disabled macros in Excel due to security issues, as such the Chem Table function no longer works properly within the ESdat desktop version (i.e. macro can't function when it opens an instance of Excel). I believe our IT department raised this issue with ESdat a few months ago without resolution. Are you aware of any workaround to this? Is it possible that a future update of the desktop version will allow a popup within Excel that would allow the user to click "allow" for the macro to run?

To date, I have been filtering the data using the desktop version and then manually entering the location_codes across to the ESdat Web version then creating a chem table. Is there a way that I can use a filter from the desktop and run it directly in the ESdat Web Version?

Thanks

Tom

Hi Tom,

I hope you're well.

Unfortunately macro control is managed completely within Excel.  If this has been shutdown by IT, there's no way for ESdat to force it to work, as that would essential negate the security.  It needs to be allowed through Excel.  I'm sure there is a way that your IT can allow this on an application basis, as I doubt it is limited to your organisation (or ESdat).  I recommend you search through Excel guides/forums to find out how to do this.

With regards to building your queries through ESdat Desktop and transferring them to ESdat Server Web UI, that is not currently possible, however we are getting close to the final stages of development of migrating many of the Desktop features to the Web (including filtering), although there is no ETA for release yet.

In the interim, you may be interested to know that you can save your filters in the Web UI by creating a bookmark in your web browser.  All the filter information is stored as part of the URL, so if you are building similar tables and only slightly modifying the filters, you can quickly and easily do this using a series of bookmarks.

Cheers,

Nick
