Data Tables ("Lab_Reports" and "Projects") already contain data for a new projec

We seem to have a problem with data tables (not the "z_ref" tables - but the project specific ones), being populated with data by default. When a new project (or site) is created, the Lab_Reports and the Projects data tables are automatically populated with what looks to be the full database. i.e. "Lab_Reports" contains details of hundreds (>300) lab reports. I suspect this might be something like an "All" setting in an importing system, that is causing ESdat to bring data from every project into a new site/project? This has been applied to all existing and new projects as well, i.e. a project that was created 2 years ago, now has these tables populated with details of new projects. This seems to cause problems with clashes between projects/sites. Such as when trying to delete or rename a project, and possibly causes data from one project to be reported in another (still looking into that possibility). Thanks Alex Blount

This post applies only to the SQL Server version. Hi Alex, Viewing the Lab Reports table under "Data Tables" will give you the complete list of lab reports in the database. This is because Lab Reports can (rarely it is true) cover multiple sites or projects (imagine a monitoring round of multiple petrol stations). If you look lab reports under the "Chem Tracking" output you will only see lab reports that are used in the selected site/project (The Chemistry Samples table provides this information). This isn't related to any issue with renaming sites / projects. You may get an error if trying to rename a site / project under the Site or Project views or tables. You can rename under File - Site / Project Association (see the bottom right of the form for instructions) Regards, Warwick

A possible cause of this issue might be when importing data from an existing project to a new project, such as via a Data Interchange Format file? We noticed that in the "Lab_Reports" tab, there is no data automatically included under the "Project_Name" column. Could that possibly then default to importing the data to "All" projects? Could that then potentially result in the linkages between all projects in the "Projects" data table? Because ESdat is linking the projects on the basis that it believes there are lab reports that are common to all of them? Doesn't explain why a new project would automatically have the same data loaded by default. Cheers Alex

Thanks Warwick, This arose because we were getting errors when trying to delete or rename projects/sites. This was from the site/project association menu and being done by the DBO. The error we get is: 50 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]The DELETE statement conflicted with the REFERENCE constraint “FK_Sample_Delivery_Groups_Projects”. The conflict occurred in database “ESdat_HG”, table “dbo.Lab_Sample_Delivery_Groups”. To work around this, a new project was created with the correct name. Data exported from the old project to an edif file, formatted and then imported into the new project. But there still seems to be linkages between the old project and the new one?

Hi ALex, That error is an example of what I was referring to before, if trying to edit the Site ID / Project ID directly in the table (or views), and the rename will be rejected. If you rename using the File - Site / Project Association form you shouldn't have any problems. If copying data into a new project there won't be any linkages if the data in the new project is given a new Site ID and a new Project ID. Regards, Warwick

Warwick, That error message appears when we try to delete or rename projects from the File - Site/Project Association form. (i.e. we're not trying to delete or rename in data tables or views) Cheers Alex

Problem fixed! There was data sitting in the Chem Tracking / Lab Sample Delivery Groups view/table which referenced the old site name and the new site name. When these records were deleted from the old site, we were then able to rename/delete the old site completely. Cheers Alex

Hi Alex, I have followed up, and it is due to a bug, a fix should be available shortly, or it will be in the next release. Your resolution sounds fine. Regards, Warwick
