Dear Sir/Madam

I would like to seek some advice regarding a problem we experienced working with ESdat data.

Microsoft Excel formulas (i.e. average, min, max, standard deviation and etc) do not recognise the ESdat data when the data were copied from the chemistry output table.

We have attempted to copy the ESdat data and pasted into a blank excel worksheet as "Values" before transferring them into our worksheets, but that also didn't help to resolve the problem.

Hello Arthur,

The best advice really depends on what your objective is.

If you just want the statistics you mentioned you should include "Summary Statistics" prior to producing the table.  You can set up a non-detect multiplier so that non-detects are also handled as you want (under "more options")

You may also find that using an export other than the "Chemistry Tables" is better suited to your purposes.  A straight "Excel Export" (ie not through the chemistry tables) will give you the data with the prefix in a seperate column, and all results are seen as numeric to Excel.  Alternatively, using the "Chart" option will give you a sheet containing the result data, and non-detects will be subject to a non-detect multiplier that you can set prior to export.

However, if you really do want to copy and paste from the Chemistry Tables, there are some things you can do so that Excel recognises data as numeric (although cells with  "<" still wont be).  You can paste the data and then copy a cell with a value of "0" and paste special - add on top of the data you previously pasted.  That will reset it.  You can also use the "Clean Cells" tool in the ESdat Excel Utilities.  If you don't have that button up in Excel you can open it if you open the form for the Excel export from within ESdat.

Regards,

Warwick
