Historical chemistry can be imported into ESdat by using one of the two “Historical Formats”.  These import formats are a simplified version of the format used for import of laboratory data.

The same data imported in the two formats is shown below.  The data is either typed or pasted into the cells.

The Cross-Tab  Format has a single line per sample.  The analytes are listed to the right of the sample information as shown above.  A SampleCode (a unique code for each sample) is calculated automatically using standard excel formulas which can be edited, or a specific code can be entered.

Total or Filtered

If a result is Field Filtered the word "Filtered", "Dissolved" or "Soluble" (case insensitve) needs to be included in the compound name. If this is the case the results will automatically be given a "Total_or_Filtered" value of "F". Result prefixes can be included with the result.

The Column format has a single line per result.  Sample information has to be duplicated for each result from the same sample.

This format, although slightly more complex allows more detailed information to be captured with the data than the Cross-Tab format.

A tool is available to help convert data from a normal (ie Cross-Tab) table layout to this list layout. See UnCross Tab Utility

When the user clicks the import button the data is not immediately imported, but is distributed to the Sample and Chemistry import templates (so that the sample information is only repeated once).  From this point the user can add any additional information or make any corrections prior to the actual import.

Changing displayed Field Names

The field names provided (LocCode, Sampled_Date-Time etc..) can be modified.     See Changing Displayed Import Fields

ChemCodes

Prior to importing the user has to assign a CAS Code to the chemicals.  To do this click the "Get ChemCodes"button to assign a ChemCode.  Assigning a ChemCode is described in ChemCodes and Units.
